VIDEO BRIEF
My chosen topic for the third assessment is “A balanced perspective is a key to understanding the contemporary surveillance society in which we live.” Specifically, in Public Health Surveillance explained in the context during the pandemic “COVID-19.”
The video is the expansion of the first video that I did ” Surveillance during the pandemic COVID-19.” The focus of the video is on Public health and surveillance since this will be a relevant topic today. In the video, I explained what public health surveillance is with a brief history.
With that in mind, I got the video of the scientist telling people how surveillance technology can help with health. To add, I have a new report of Coronavirus under surveillance, especially in Korea and how they are doing it. Furthermore, I got an animation about explaining contract- tracing in details. I put on Reddit forum talking about this significant issue with Surveillance and Coronavirus during the pandemic in the video to have people’s view on this very topic. To make more interesting, I added in the positives and negative of having public surveillance to give the viewers a balanced view.
The goal of the video is to give evaluation views in Public health surveillance for the public to have better hygiene condition. Public Health surveillance to observe the nature of the virus and to eliminate or have the antidote.
The reason why I make this video is that this won’t is the last time that we will be affecting with this kind of virus, I am thinking that if a similar type of virus occurred again, we will be prepared and have a better chance of fighting against this kind of virus. As this is a fascinating topic as we are using surveillance technology to save a life.
My audience is people who are interested in the topic of how COVID-19 virus is monitored and traced from the carrier to stop transmitting other people. Since this is the hot topic to analysis, this public surveillance can better the health care system.
My approach to the topic is expository, which is to describe or explain a point and somewhat analytical to break down a case into parts, and then exploring the relationships between each element.
The video look: Black and white aesthetic base; however, with some colour element.
REFLECTIONS ON THE CREATIVE PROCESS
For the academic sources, I have to look at the book(PDF) at Google Scholar; “Public Health Surveillance: A Tool for Targeting and Monitoring Interventions” and the book from the Deakin Library; “Communication, Digital Media and Everyday Life.” These books helped me defined ” Surveillance” and “Public Health Surveillance” with its history. New reports are all on google and websites, even Online Forum from Reddit. What is challenging to find is an expert talking about public health surveillance technology and the advantages and disadvantages. Luckily, I found a great video on Youtube for the video with the expert but, unfortunately, I had to read the book that I found. Thorugh reading and searching through websites, I have to draw out or sort out the positives and negatives of using this type of surveillance.
I got a better understanding and planning the video, and it got slightly better of editing and what I version to put the visuals. I still need to practise on scripting and voice-over for the video. I am kind of nervous and not trying to rush a lot. Voice-over got better ever since I record on Audacity which is better than recording on the phone and then fixing it on adobe audition. Another thing that I learned is using “Canva,” I use some visuals(video) to edit the look of the video. After editing the visuals, I did all the clips on Adobe Premiere Pro.
I enjoy making this kind of video which give information and hot topic. To add, the footage that provides options for viewers to think with non- based facts. I hope that my viewers enjoy the video.
